What's that sound from across the hill,
Cymbals crash, whistles trill,
Flood the night with big arc lights,
They're building something of considerable height.
Creep out of bed and down the stairs,
Cross the field, Mum and Dad unawares.
Hundreds of carnies running around,
Lions roar, hammers swing and pound.
Big top in the show ground,
The circus is coming to town!
Colourful man with a megaphone:
"Roll up, roll up, leave your troubles at home!"
Girl at the ticket box flashes a smile,
Horses walk by in single file.
Cotton candy and popcorn for me,
Jugglers taunting a man like a tree,
Sawdust and boards and the smell of smoke,
Clown warming up with a silent joke.
Pack all the people right in,
Waiting for the show to begin!
